The purchasing power of any country's currency normaly reflects its economic strength, which in turn is based on the domestic economic & the development of Foreign trade wither in import & export.Such development with its negative or positive effects on the trade balance ,and consequently on the balance of payment.
Here The U.A.E dirhem stands out in 1992 made varying major improvments against most of the major currencies ,in compromising with the exchange rate in 1992.
The U.A.E, with the discovering of oil became from a limited resources country to a rich one,with a large surplus as a result of exporting the crude oil and adjusting its course , in two large periods:
First: 1973 -1974 following October's war between Arabs & Israel , which oil exports to Europe & The U.S.A were blocked.
Second : 1979-1980 following Khomeny's revolution on Shah Iran , brake out of Iraqi-Iranian war which lasted till 1988.
According to the development in Oil production and rates , the U.A.e's GDP progressed.
In 1980(A golden year for oil productors) the GDP was E.D 111.5 billion.
In 1986as production and race , the GDP declined to E.D81.8 billion.
Yet,it improved again due to the increase in demand on OPEC production and increased in rates, specially after the Gulf crises as a result of Iraqi occupation of Kwait.
In 1990 it was E.D128 billion , better than the golden year.
